UKCA/CE Testing

WHAT IS IT?

In the descriptions on my product pages, you will see “Product has been through UK/CA and CE safety testing.” But what does this mean? Well it means that before any item goes up for sale on the website it is thoroughly tested to the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. There are 3 main areas of testing that the products go through so you know that purchasing from me means the products are as safe as possible.

PART 1- Mitigation of Certain Elements (EN71-3)

All the yarns and materials I use have been tested to make sure there are no chemicals or banned substances found in the yarns/fabrics. I have sourced the correct certificates for the yarns I use, the safety eyes I use, the felt I use and any other components such as keyrings, teether rings etc.

PART 2- Physical Tests (EN71-1)

The products are put through a range of physical tests:

Torque-
Tests on all the seams to see how they perform being pulled and twisted in a way children might when playing. They pass if they remain intact with no stuffing showing through.

Rod-
Test checks there are no holes big enough to access the stuffing or for a little finger to get stuck in.

Drop/Tip-
The products are dropped, tipped over and compressed under a weight to ensure no parts break or crack or fall off.

Tension-
Tests happen all the seams and weak points of the product. They are hung between 2 clamps with weights added to the bag up to 7.2kg. The toy passes if the seams all stay attached.

PART 3- Flammability Tests (EN71-2)

This test involves setting fire to my products to see how long until a flame burns out to see if a child has time to drop a toy should it
catch fire. These tests aren’t fun to do but they ensure my toys are as safe as they possibly can be.

Once the product has been through all of these tests it is then washed and put through the tests again to ensure washing doesn’t cause any weakness. Care instructions are provided on the label.
